I heart Brett!

The Scene: Prom night. Several of us in the family room. Brett and his date on the way out the door.

Mom: Uh, Brett, I don't think we ever discussed curfew. Dad, do you have any thoughts on that?
Brett: If you do Dad, you can just keep them to yourself.
Dad: *mouth open in stunned silence*
Peanut gallery: *muffled laughter and exchanging of knowing glances.*

The Scene: Driving to the 4th of July Angels game with Brett driving and Mark, Dad and I in the car. Dad looks over at the spedometer to notice that Brett may or may not be decidedly speeding...a lot.

Dad: Brett!! SLOW DOWN!!!
Brett: (voice entirely nonplussed and completely monotone) I can't.
Dad: *mouth open in more stunned silence*

With comments like those, is it any wonder I miss Brett all the time?

And doesn't the look on Brett's face in this picture capture his persona? Dale, being his normal self (thank you, Dale, for being a visual aid) and Brett...well, we all know there's some hilarious comment brewing in that head of his. If only the camera could capture it.

It makes me sad elizabeth isn't around him more to bask in the wonderful that is Brett-ums. One of my favorite scenes in my life was Brett holding Elizabeth for the first time and her smiling up at him. What lucky kids to have him for an uncle.

I wish I had a scanner because i have the greatest pic in the world of brett when he was little but alas, it'll have to wait to next b-day to embarass him. But until then, I'll just say Happy Birthday to our favorite youngest brother. You'll always be Boog to us, no matter how old you get.

For the love, do you want some chocolate milk? Does the baby want some juice? We love you Brett. Especially when we watch you "shoelaces" commercial over and over. :)

I have a brother named Brett. We always say that everyone needs to have an Uncle Brett. They are the greatest.

Brett always has been good for some funny lines. Since you brought up the commercial, I have a couple to share. Because I am the closest in age, I had the privilege of being in the interview room with Brett when they would bring 8 or 10 of us in and ask some questions. I was there when they asked us all what our favorite Ice Cream was for a Thrifty commercial. I went ahead and told them my favorite, of course, selecting a kind only served at Thrifty. I was feeling pretty good about myself. They go on down the line and get to Brett and he responds with a kind only served at Clark's Drugs. I wish I could have had my reaction to the next couple of moments on tape. I immediately thought, YOU BLEW IT!!! That is, until they proceeded to ask him several more questions about it. I was shocked. We all know who got the commercial...and it certainly was not me. I also was present for the interview where they asked him, "Where did you get your red hair?" to which he responded...from a bottle. Yep...he got that one too. Well, I guess if I was not going to get any of those commercials, at least I could be beat out by one of our own. Plus, I got to accompany him on the set sometimes and reap the benefits of the doughnuts even without having to listen to the directors lame instructions. Good times.

I have plenty of Brett memories, but some of my favorite are the most recent...like when we were spending some time with Nana and Papa over Easter. Carter wakes up at the crack of dawn every day and since Brett was crashing on the couch, they had some serious Wii fun before the sun came up. That may or may not be why Brett frequently napped in the middle of the day...My kids idolize Brett. He is the most requested at amusement parks and a favorite to play the Wii with. Carter has a special affinity for Brett which makes my heart happy...He thinks that Brett is possibly the coolest person on the earth and he may be right. Happy Birthday Brett! See you soon...

Brett is a total stud. He exemplifies attributes I aspire to possess (including a hairline that is not receding). I loved watching him play football as a kid - made a great pick at Saugus. He has a kicking sense of humor and one of the best hearts of anyone I know.

Brett is awesome. I love many stories about Brett. My favorite has to be him taking a nose dive after being hit in the head by an Easter egg (with Dad watching Justin throw it). The look on Brett's face as he went down was classic and Justin got in big trouble. Plus, he was an animal on the soccer field (along with Matty and Justin).

I had so much fun hanging out with Brett at Knott's Berry Farm. Happy Birthday. I celebrated your birthday by being sick at work. Tons of fun.

I could go for days on Brett. Of course I am going straight to the soccer skills where after he would juke someone so bad they fell over, he would laugh and keep dribbling. He was also a great player on his football team. I can remember him sacking the QB and then promptly looking to the sidelines at us doing the well-known grunt while slapping his own head.
One of my favorite memories was when I brought Katie home for the first time. We drove up with Tammy to find Brett chilling in the front yard. Without cracking a smile he stood up, held out his arms and Tams and I dog-piled him on the front lawn. Katie was standing there laughing and Brett just looked at her straightfaced and said, "This happens every time."
Most recently I was very impressed with the value he placed on family time. During the holidays he called in to work on one of his shifts to let them know he would be spending time with his family and not at work that day. Being in the retail business this was not well received and probably could have cost him his job. I personally heard him take the call where his manager was expressing his views and Brett's response was simple, "My family hasn't been all together in many years. It is important to me to be here with them and you will survive without me."
Brett is a great guy and we are all lucky to have him in our family. Happy B-day!

Oh Brettums...the sibling closest in age with me. All I want to know is what happened to the days when we hugged on a daily basis? It may have been the "huggy wuggy, kissy wissy" punishment provoking our frequent display of affection but I don't see why we can't start that practice up again just for fun. I'm pretty sure I've never had more fun at family time then over this last chirstmas break when you ditched Circuit City to come hang out with us. You always make family time more fun. Plus, you give me presents on your birthday.

What can I say Brettums? I don't know where I'd be without having you as my big brother. You taught me to jump off the roof, dared me to ride down dirt hills on my bike, set up traps for me in the back yard, and gave all my teachers a good warm up for the shenanigans I had in store. What more could a girl ask for?

One last thing. I remember occassionally someone would ask me about you and I'd tell them how much I loved you and how awesome I thought you were and I swear, everytime they would say "Funny, that's exactly what he said about you." As hilarious as you are, I value your character far more than your sense of humor. You're so smart, and even more kind. You're loyal to your loved ones. You'd always speak kindly of them and go out of your ways to serve them. Thanks for being my boog nigg.
