Oops...

I just lit a tortilla on fire in the oven. I mean full fledged flames. The best part is when I saw the billowing smoke coming out of the oven, I opened it up and saw the flames and just stared like...what do I do now? Then, my brain started working and I grabbed it with a pair of tongs and threw it in the sink. No harm done...other than the whole downstairs has that hazy smoke everywhere and it smells like campfire. Oh well...

Oh my gosh! I love that you just stared at it. You usually know just what to do so it's funny that for a second you forgot. :) I'm glad a serious disaster was averted!

Don't feel bad. It happens to the best of us. Besides, no harm, no foul, right?

P.S. Need I remind you that I once burned Jell-o? (Did that even really happen? At this point, I'm convinced it's just family lore.) It's all good.

No joke, I was cooking a tortilla on the stove my freshman year and it caught on fire and I flung it off the stove with a pair of tongs and it hit the wall and slid behind. Thankfully it did not light the apartment on fire... I'm pretty sure though, judging by the cleanliness of that place when we arrived, it is still there.

haha!!! That is so funny! Also, about the jello legend... I'd also be interested in knowing if that's true. If so, how in the world did you manage to burn jello?!!! :)

I'll tell you how she burned it, because it is 100% true. You're supposed to boil the water and put the hot water in a glass bowl and then dissolve the sugar flavoring pack in the water but she forgot the remove water from stove step and poured the sugar stuff in while the water was still boiling. Walah - fried jello!

I once caught a toaster oven on fire...at work...in my cubicle. It was back in the dot-com days so just picture me, shorts and flip flops, holding a burning toaster oven, running for the back door to hurl it into the parking lot. Good times.
